Topics/Programs: Relationship abuse prevention programs with focus areas that include deconstructing gender stereotypes, media literacy, and understanding sexism. Home visitation, supporting parents in abusive situations, crisis intervention, one-on-one confidential counseling with teens or children living in abusive households or experiencing power and control in their own relationships, advocacy, temporary emergency shelter, 24-hour hotline, support groups and services for elder abuse victims are some of the programs offered. Presentations are available to professionals and others who interact with children. Eight weekly education based groups are available for women who want to learn more about the effects of domestic violence on their children including parenting support, information about power and control, how to respond to children’s needs after witnessing abuse, and other domestic violence related subjects. Crisis intervention, safety planning, supportive counseling and advocacy available to youth who have witnessed abuse at home or who are experiencing abuse from a dating partner.
Methodology: Specializing in multi-session, prevention focused, engagement-based programs to prevent relationship abuse. Activities, videos and facilitated discussion are used to help young people understand how cultural attitudes and beliefs perpetuate inequality in relationships. Special attention is given to exploring how mass media influences gender roles and power and control model. Creative and flexible programs are created for any youth setting.

Topics/Programs: Educate youth through exposing the manipulative marketing techniques Big Tobacco uses to get youth to smoke. The goal of this media literacy education is to empower youth and spread advertising and the message of Reality Check rather than Big Tobacco’s message.
Methodology: Planning events and meetings for teens as a means to educate teens about Big Tobacco’s deceiving marketing methods. Reality Check is “a Branded Movement.” At events, Reality Check hands out their gear with their logo on it so teens will sport the Reality Check Brand rather than Big Tobacco’s. Reality Check does not focus on cessation or the health risks of tobacco use but rather the unfair and deceptive practices of tobacco companies.

Operation Healthy Baby (OH Baby) Operation Healthy Baby (OH Baby)
Program provided through the North Country Heart Network funded by the March
of Dimes. Oh Baby offers free individual counseling in Malone and Saranac
Lake for women and interested partners who would like to quit smoking.
Office hours are twice a week Wednesdays in Malone (at North Star Chemical
Dependency offices) and Fridays in Saranac Lake (at North Star Chemical
Dependency offices). Counseling hours are in the afternoon and outreach
